Facebook Verification Badge

So, we’re sitting down having a cuppa and a biscuit, talking about our business pages and social media and I ask;

“Do you have the verification badge on your Facebook page?”

I’m presented with a blank stare back in my direction, a quick sip of a drink, and followed with the reply;

“I have no idea… what is it?”

With that question I went into more detailed information about the social media platform and how they could add this verification in just a few easy steps.
I won’t bore you with every back and forth of this conversation or we’ll have a novel with three chapters! Instead here is what you (business owners) need to know about Facebook and getting your business page verified.

Why add the verification badge?

The Facebook help team answers this very question, when one of their users questioned the badge, advising them:
“There is no requirement to verify your Page on Facebook. Some pages and profiles have been verified by Facebook to let people know that they’re authentic.”
Authentic
Let’s just talk about what authenticity is to customers in a few describing words:
• True
• Reliable
• Dependable
• Trustworthy
• Genuine
Would you want your company associated with those adjectives? I know I would!

What is the verification badge?

There are two types of verification badges available.
Blue tick badge
If you are a public figure, media company or brand your badge would be blue.
Think Nike, Mercedes- Benz, or one of the Kardashian ladies, they would all have the blue badge of verification.
Grey tick badge
If you are a business or organisation your badge will be grey.
Local clubs and small businesses would be some of the types of pages that could obtain this grey badge of verification.

Get your Facebook page verified

Getting your Facebook page verified is fairly quick and painless. As log as you are the admin of the page (if you have setup the page originally, chances are pretty high you’re an admin), you’ll be able to make this change to your page.
To verify your Page:
1. Click Settings at the top of your Page
2. From General, click Page Verification
3. Click Verify this Page, then click Get Started
4. Enter a publicly listed phone number for your business, your country and language
5. Click Call Me Now to allow Facebook to call you with a verification code
6. Enter the 4-digit verification code and click Continue

You’re verified

Yes, that’s it, it is that simple. After submitting the 4-digit verification code and clicking continue. You’ll find a confirmation screen pops up, like the one show here.
Click on OK, and you are done.

Another reason why to be verified.

What Facebook doesn’t tell you anywhere until you verify your business is that, by getting your grey badge, you will now show up higher in search results in Facebook for users. This will give you better access to potential customers and users by standing out from the rest of the competition.

Conclusion

So, while verifying your Facebook page is not required, it is a great way to get the most out of your Facebook business page, strengthen your social media presence and confirm your page is the true Facebook page for your business.
